Moblin V2.0 Beta on Aspire One
I did a quick test of the Moblin V2.0 beta running from USB on my Aspire One a few days ago.
I realize this is a Beta, but the first thing I tested after wireless was the Intro video, which didn’t work! I wasn’t able to install the Flash player from the browser so I gave up on that.
Sure, I could have gone to the commandline and installed it, but that’s not the point. If you include a video showing how awesome your new OS is, you need to make sure it “just works”!
Quick impressions:
- Overall, it seemed to boot fast, considering it was from USB
- Wireless worked fine so I didn’t the test wired connection
- The Clutter interface will take some getting used to and seems geared toward Social Media rather than business tasks
- Shutting down is a little scary – it’s designed to power off when you hit the power button
- No persistent storage(!) when running from USB. My biggest complaint and a showstopper for me
I’m anxiously awaiting the Linpus version, Linpus Quick OS, that’s being debuted at Computex. As soon as I can get my hands on a copy I’ll load it up and do a through review.
